ENRICHMENT AND SUPPORT

At Sweet Valley Primary, we have a team of committed professionals who work together with class teachers to support children in the mainstream.
Our remedial teachers offer lessons to groups of children with specific needs in Language and Mathematics. A Speech and Language Therapist and an Occupational Therapist offer group and individual support, particularly to children in the Foundation Phase.
Our enrichment teacher offers small group and whole class extension in support of our Thinking Schools Programme. The focus is on developing critical, strategic, and creative thinking, as well as developing effective study skills in the Intermediate Phase.
Our full-time counsellor and part-time Social and Emotional Learning Facilitator offer emotional and social skills support to children.
Class teachers are able to meet with the school-based support team. This multidisciplinary team meets weekly to discuss children’s needs. Recommendations are made to facilitate referrals either to remedial/enrichment personnel or private practitioners. In order to access this forum, parents may discuss concerns with the child’s class teacher.
